If you are a resident of the North East you don’t have to be told that Winter is not a good time to work on the yard. By late December the ground is usually frozen and any outdoor work becomes miserable, if not impossible.
“Honey, when you’re done you can start shoveling where the patio is going!”
Okay maybe not. But Winter does present us with a great time to start PLANNING projects for the Springtime. Often times when we wait until Spring we are already putting ourselves behind schedule.
Well designed landscaping will add value to your home, and provide enjoyment all year.
Project Ideas
- Build your own patio. They are not the easiest to construct but should only take a few weekends at most. The great part about a patio is that it creates outdoor living space which is a wonderful feature for every time of year, even Winter(buy a hot-tub).
- Make a garden. With a delivery of our organic leaf compost or our garden mix (half topsoil, half compost) you can start making the garden of your dreams. If you don’t currently have a garden I highly recommend one. Organic vegetables may be expensive but they are delicious! Grow your own and save. Besides the fresh taste cannot be beat by any store bought produce.
- Â Redo your lawn. No one is proud to have a carpet of crab grass as a lawn. Installing a new lawn is not difficult. All you need is some topsoil and grass seed.
- Spruce up your landscaping. If you don’t have plants, shrubs, and ornamental trees you are missing out. The aesthetic beauty these provide are well worth the expense. Take your time and pick out the right variety for your home. This is a big decision and it helps to consult someone with knowledge of landscape design. Doing this will save you money in the long run, moving trees and shrubs is much more difficult than planting them!
- Build a pond. I built my two tier Koi pond this year and I absolutely love it. Look into one, if you are a fan of nature you are a fan of ponds.
For many people time is an issue. For others they simply do not like working in the yard. If either of those apply to you consult a professional. Not only does a beautiful yard add value to your home, but it makes being home much more enjoyable as well.
