Since the beginning of time sand was used to fill in the spaces between paving-stones. This gave the area a uniform look, as well as helping to keep the pavers in place. Time proved that there were some downsides to pure sand.
Cons of Sand
- Sand washes away with heavy rains.
- Insects, especially ants, mine in between the pavers, removing the sand as they do so.
- Weeds will grow in the sand
- Sand has very little structure, pavers will sometimes shift with only sand in the cracks
Alliance Polymeric Paver Sand is the best product on the market to fill in between paving-stones, keeping them secure while adding aesthetic value.

Application Instructions
- Sweep the Alliance Polymeric Sand thoroughly into the spaces between the pavers.
- Leave a thin layer of Alliance Polymeric Sand on the surface of the pavers, and compact the area with a plate compactor. This will further level the pavers, and the vibration will allow the polymeric sand to get to the bottom of the joints.
- if some of the joints are not filled to the top, sweep more Alliance Polymeric Sand across the surface .
- Use a back-pack blower and blow off the surface.
- Make sure the surface is totally clean, and then start misting the area with the hose. MISTING is using a very light stream of water and wetting the surface. Do not spray the cracks directly with the hose or you will wash the Alliance Polymeric Sand out of the cracks. Mist for 15 minutes. Do this two or three times. You want to make sure you wet the sand all the way to the bottom. Water activates the polymers in the sand, and when it dries it will harden completely.
We carry Alliance Super Sand, and Alliance Gator Dust. Alliance Super Sand is very fine, designed to fill joints up to 1″. Gator Dust is coarser, designed for joints from 1-4″. That is the only difference in the products. They are both available in Stone Grey and Beige. Alliance Polymeric Sand is sold in 50lbs bags, and we have these in stock at our Milford, Ct location. The cost is $23.50 per bag, and they usually cover about 80 square feet each. Larger joints will require larger amounts of material.
Alliance Polymer Sands can be used in between natural stones such as blue-stone.
Alliance Sands are excellent for filling between concrete pavingstones. Whatever the project, Alliance has the product for the job.
